Life and Music of Beethoven Developmental perspective

Abstract
In order to understand human mind, we need to have at least four perspectives. Those are historical(longitudinal), scientific(correct and objective), artistic(beautiful) and philosophical (deep) perspectives. Among these perspectives, artistic
perspective can be strengthened by music. Historically speaking, there is no nation, culture or period in which some form of music has not existed and nobody lacks entirely the ability to experience some pleasure through music. In this sense,
music
is a
universal phenomenon.
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between psychological development and musical expression. The author chose beethoven, because based on the author's experience, the author have thought that the relationship between
musical
expression and psychological development could be demonstrated most distinctly in Beethoven's life and music.
Developmentally, Beethoven's music can be divided into distinct periods. The first period (1793-1801) is the period of imitation. This means Beethoven's music is greatly influenced by Haydn or Mozart's music. The second period(1802-1814) is
celled
as
the period of externalization. This means Beethoven uses direct confrontation method to express his thinking or emotion. The last period(1815-1827) is called as the period of internalization or period of transcendence, because all complex
thoughts
or
emotions are integrated into one absolute concept in Beethoven's mind and music.
Based on these developmental aspects in Beethoven's music, the following conclusions can be drawn:
1. Music is a universal phenomenon in human mind.
2. Human being can achieve psychoigical balance or harmony through music.
3. By achieving psychological balance or harmony, human being can strengthen the beautiful perspective in understanding human mind.
4. The quality of musical expression is closely related with psychological maturation and this processes can be described as process of imitation, process of externalization and process of internalization.
